He Can’t Possibly Be Six.

You turned 6 over a whole month ago, but I couldn’t get it together to write you a birthday letter until now.  The delay is partly because I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that you’re such a big boy.  It’s also because, well, I just don’t have a lot of free time

But enough about me.  Let’s talk about you and how awesome you are.  You are full on reading chapter books like the A to Z Mysteries.  None of this level one business anymore.  In fact, just last night, you read your entire classroom newsletter to me.  All 5 pages, type written by your teacher in 12 point font.  It was super educational for both of us – I learned about what you’re doing in reading, writing, math, social studies and science.  You learned how to read some new words like “comprehension” and “resume.”  It was amazing!

You are OBSESSED with Frozen.  You’ve memorized all the songs on the soundtrack and you belt them out just like Idina Menzel.  When the Demi Lovato version of Let it Go comes on, well, you pretty much shit all over it.  Mama didn’t raise no fool.  You’re Broadway all the way, baby.

You like to go with me to get pedicures.  You always pick rad colors like day glow orange and green or straight up glitter.  You match your underwear to your outfit. You love your jewelry-making class at after school.  You’re still a fruiterian, but you also really dig “slippery shrimp” at dim sum, you prefer orange juice to apple, and you would eat matzoh ball soup every night if we let you.

You let me hug you and squeeze you and call you George and you never, ever complain about it.  You take your hair very seriously, you brush AND floss and you still think your big brother is the funniest guy you’ve ever met.

You are so kind and polite and empathic.  You are the kind of person I would like to be. I’m constantly struck by how much light and laughter a little man like you can bring into such a big world like this.

Daddy and I feel so very lucky that we get to be your parents.

Every. Single. Day.

Love,
Mommy
